Cecilia's fine motor skills are great and right on target for a 9 month old, but her large motor skills are not quite as good (mostly crawling). The doc says she is probably fine, but wants to be extra cautious. Cecilia will have an x-ray of her hips to make sure they are okay and will be referred to First Steps to determine if she needs any therapy. My thoughts are that her development and personality are going hand in hand. She has always been a fairly laid back, content, somewhat reserved baby. She is perfectly happy sitting and playing with what is around her, so she doesn't have much of a desire to go anywhere else! Plus, we are enjoying her staying where we put her and not getting into everything!:)
Cecilia is eating more and more table food; she loves to feed herself, and she has gotten very good at it. We do some sign language with her, and I think she is starting to understand it, which is very exciting. She gets very excited when we ask her if she wants "more" food! She is also really starting to enjoy having books read to her. As long as she is not too tired, she will usually sit as long as you are willing to read to her. She really looks at the pages now, and will pat at the pictures. And just last week, she will now usually turn the page for you once you get it started for her - it is so cute!
As I said before, she is not crawing yet. But she is showing progress in that direction. She gets her arms and legs going, but she doesn't lift her belly off the ground. She can go a few inches, forward and backward. However, she has been all about pulling up lately. She can do it by herself if she uses our clothes to grab. If she can't grab anything, we have to hold her hands in place for her, and then she can do it by herself. She will try to pull up any time she gets the opportunity! Christian was changing her diaper the other day, and she grabbed ahold of his shirt and pulled herself right up! She was also doing it to me today at the doctor's office; she was supposed to be sitting on the table, but she kept reach for me and pulling up! She has also really enjoyed standing by herself (holding on to something of course) lately. It makes her very happy! The only problem is has no safety awareness, so if she loses her balance, she will totally faceplant, so we have to stay right with her.
Outakes from the photo session!
She is looking at Christian who had just called her name!
Notice the diaper has changed; she is no longer a swaddler!
She is a cruiser now, or at least her diaper is!:)
