Our Newest Addition

Ever since we lost Mazie, we have been discussing when to get another dog.  It was a discussion that came up often, and long story short, we decided getting another dog would be like having a baby (in more ways than one) that there is really never going to be a "good" time.  So we went for it!

A big part of my heart really wanted to rescue a dog, but we also really knew we wanted another Boxer.  We are Boxer people; we look at Boxer's differently than other dogs.  So we found a Boxer rescue group and thought that would be a perfect compromise, and I even followed their page closely for months and puppies rarely became available.  We even tried to get a couple, but they went too fast!  With having small children, we knew we wanted to get a puppy to train her they way we want and most importantly treat her they way she deserves.  Not knowing backgrounds of older dogs made us nervous.

So anyway, I searched and searched and found a breeder than I really liked.  It is a husband and wife in eastern KY that treat their dogs like family, which was very important to us.  If we were going to buy from a breeder, we want to at least buy from a reputable one, instead of give money to ones that treat their dogs horribly just to make a buck.

When I found them, they only had two left for sale in their litter.  One male and one female, so we made our deposit on the female and brought her home a couple weeks later on Jan 11!  We named her Lucia after a famous world champion boxer (athlete).  I wanted to give her a German girls name, but we could not agree on one!

For those of you who don't know, Boxers come in fawn (brown), brindle (black and brown striped), and sometimes white. Mazie was a fawn, and we thought we wanted to get something different this time.  Lucia is considered Brindle on her registration, but she obviously looks black.  She is what they call "sealed brindle" which means she has so many black stripes that is has "sealed" in her brown.  In the sun, you can actually see a decent amount of brown in her.

She is now 3.5 months old.
