CS&C Brady Blog: Easter

We had a great Easter. It was filled with lots of family fun, but would have been a little better had the weather cooperated a little more. We had several egg hunts to attend the last couple weeks, and they either got canceled or moved inside due to the rain! For those of you that don"t live around here, we have had rain, rain, rain the last few weeks! With more rain on the way! The "upstairs house" on the river will probably be flooded come tomorrow:(

Anyway, back to our holiday! It was wonderful celebrating Easter as a family of four. Cecilia really enjoyed going through her Easter basket that was filled with all kinds of little trinkets and such. She is definitely in the here and now, as when she went through her basket or at egg hunts, she stops at each item/egg to check out what it is and play with it. We had to constantly tell her "See what else you got" (with her basket Easter morning).... "Go find more eggs. We'll open them all later!"

I am big on not having the holidays be all about the commercial stuff (I am not even sure if Cecilia even realized "Santa" is the one that brings gifts, although she def knew who he was). I want the girls to know the real reason why we are celebrating and try not to get too caught up in the gifts and such. So Christmas was easy - baby Jesus was born! We got her a Little People nativity, and she loved playing with it and talking about "Mary" and "Jofess," baby Jesus' mommy and daddy. Easter was not so easy - Jesus was crucified and then rose from the dead - kind of hard to grasp for a 2 yr old. So we concentrated more on "baby Jesus", now being "grown man Jesus" (she has often thought the pictures/statues at church of Jesus have been "Jofess" bc it is a grown man). And that on Easter we are celebrating "his life and sacrifices." She is getting better and better at church and finally starting to understand to be quiet and talk softly. Her favorite part of church is the "pretty music." When she was MUCH younger, like probably a year or so ago, she would shout out after a song was over, "more pretty music! more pretty music!" it was cute and embarrassing at the same time. So I think she thinks the main purpose of church is the music, and she informed me several weeks ago that the talking in between songs are the commercials. She looked right up at me after a song and in all seriousness said, "It's okay mommy. It's a commercial." Which is something we sometimes have to tell her at home when she is getting impatient waiting for her show to come back on. We often have a man singing at church, and yesterday was a women. So right at the beginning of mass the woman starting singing, and Cecilia's eyes lit up and with excitement she said, "It's Mary mommy. It's Mary!" I just nodded my head and gave her a hug, why not let her think Mary was singing to her on Easter?
